The School of Education invites applicants for a 9.5 month CLT position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning November 15, 2024. Acadia University offers Nova Scotia’s only Master of Education Counselling Program, accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counsellor Education Programs (CACEP). Acadia University is one of four Universities in Canada to hold CACEP accreditation, which affirms the M.Ed. Counselling Program’s high standards and rigorous engagement in developing future counselling professionals and leaders. The Counselling Program is committed to ongoing efforts to attract and retain faculty from diverse ethnic, racial, gender, and personal backgrounds that reflect a diverse global society. The successful candidate of the CLT in Supervision and Practicum will join the M.Ed. Counselling Team with a focus on teaching and supervision related to practicum. The standard teaching load of a CLT appointment is five courses annually. The course assignment for this position will primarily involve practicum coursework and coordination of Red Spruce Mental Health Centre (RSMHC), the program’s community-serving cost-free counselling centre and training clinic (www.redspruce.org). This includes supporting client referral and screening processes, supervising practicum interns, and promoting and sustaining community partnerships. In addition, the successful candidate will also actively engage in service activities within the M.Ed. Counselling Program and School of Education.
Academic Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field, must be certified/licensed with a professional counselling body (e.g., Certified Counsellor, Registered Counselling Therapist, Registered Psychologist, or Registered Social Worker), and have a minimum of four years direct counselling experience post-graduation of their master’s degree. Applicants must have some supervision training and direct experience supervising students and/or candidates. Applicants for this appointment must demonstrate a critical understanding and active engagement in the counselling profession from a stance of cultural humility and responsiveness, which centers on the principles and values of justice and equity. Prior experience in counsellor education and a doctorate completed or near completion is considered an asset.
