Duties:Vancouver Island University’s tiwšɛmawtxʷ campus is seeking one or more instructors to teach in the Education Assistant and Community Support Program (EACS) Certificate Program being delivered collaboratively with tla’amin Nation beginning in January 2025. This position will be based in the tla’amin community of t̓išosəm with some hours completed on campus and/or remotely.We require instructors to teach the following courses between January and June 2025 (please indicate in your application which courses you are interested in teaching):EACS 110 – Foundations for Practice
EACS 130 – Teaching and Learning Strategies
EACS 180 – School-based Practicum
CYC152/ECEC150 – Interpersonal Communication: Theory and PracticeCandidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.Required Qualifications:Masters’ degree from an appropriately accredited institution in a human services (social work or educational psychology) or disability field.

  • Experience supporting persons with disabilities and unique health care needs is essential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in post-secondary teaching both, online and in the classroom, with the ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Knowledge and experience applying theory in practice in a manner that is consistent with the content in the course descriptions.
  • Concrete evidence of collaboration and effective team work.
  • Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology in an education environment and familiarity with learning management systems (D2L).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant PhD in a Human Service related field (completed or in progress).
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Broad and current understanding of disability issues. Experience working with Indigenous Communities. Training in Trauma-informed practice.
