The SLC supports undergraduate learning and writing, and graduate writing, in-person at all three campuses and via online services. In partnership with other SFU departments – including Back on Track, CEE, and Academic Integrity – the SLC provides core academic support services for SFU students and instructors, including services. More information about what the SLC offers is available here: https://www.lib.sfu.ca/about/branches-depts/slc/offer.About the RoleThe Head, Student Learning Commons (SLC) provides strategic and operational leadership for the division and supervises writing and learning coordinators, and the SLC assistant. As a member of the Library’s leadership team, the Head collaborates and consults with peers and colleagues to advance the Library’s strategic priorities. The Head liaises with other campus units in support of collaborations and partnerships. This position manages the divisional budget, and reviews and approves proposals for discretionary spending on programs and initiatives. The Head is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising staff in the unit, and consults with Human Resources and Labour Relations, as needed.QualificationsMaster’s degree in Education or related field and five years related experience in higher education, academic skills services, staff leadership, and supervision, and post-secondary teaching, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Excellent knowledge of student development, learning skills theory, research, and current issues and transition programming.
- Excellent leadership, change management, and inter-disciplinary team management skills.
- Excellent human resource management, interpersonal, intercultural, communication (oral, written, and presentation) skills.
