Under the general direction of, and in collaboration with researchers and faculty members, positions at this level apply extensive knowledge in their field to perform high-level, complex research activities, and will normally hold a Master’s degree. Individuals with training beyond a Master’s degree who have limited experience may also be appointed into this classification level.Position Overview:The Research Associate works with German-Canadian Studies on its knowledge mobilization campaign for “What They Can Teach Us,” a trilingual oral history resource. The RA will be responsible for conducting outreach with German-language schools and cultural institutions to introduce the resource and explain its features. The RA will also expand the selection of lesson plans available on the website, and create and upload web-based tutorials for remote learning to the site.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and host seminars, focus groups, community meetings, special events, and other forms of public engagement.
  • The Research Associate will correspond with local German-language schools and cultural institutions, organize in-person and virtual training sessions, and present “What They Can Teach Us” to both educators and students at a variety of levels. The RA will record and upload web-based tutorials to the German-Canadian Studies’ webpage and other digital repositories.
  • Contribute to overall activities and internal operations related to the research project.
  • The Research Associate will undertake preparatory work, including writing and creating presentation materials, as well as recording and assembling web tutorials. The RA will also undertake the creation of new lesson plans informed by the Manitoba curriculum.
  • Perform other duties, including administrative support, as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in History, Education, or related field.
  • Strong written and spoken English skills.
  • Strong written and spoken German skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and work well both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Must have good computer skills.
  • Must be dependable and detail-oriented.
  • French language skills an asset.
  • Experience within the oral history field an asset.
  • Experience with knowledge mobilization initiatives an asset.
