We seek talented team members with the passion and drive to help us in our mission to build a global appetite for British goods and services; drive investment; negotiate trade deals and open up markets; improve international trading standards and fight unfair trading practices.Based at British Consulate General in Montreal the Senior Investment Officer will proactively identify investment opportunities in Quebec for market ready UK companies in multiple sectors including future mobility (automotive & commercial aviation) and space to achieve new business for UK companies, and work with companies from Canada seeking to launch into, or expand in, the UK market. You will be part of the North America team with responsibility for the future mobility and space sectors with a focus on automotive, vehicle supply chains, and advanced engineering/manufacturing. There will be a line managing responsibility of one Investment Officer. You will also be a valued contributor to the Montreal based regional team and work closely with colleagues based around the US and UK.Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
- Provide a comprehensive account management service to key Canadian prospects in the aforementioned multiple sectors looking to set up operations in the UK; and support Canadian companies already active in the UK market to grow their footprint.
- Successfully build and manage a pipeline of knowledge-driven projects that have the potential to bring high-value jobs and R&D to the UK.
- Assist high-growth and innovative Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and established businesses understand and access UK markets. In addition, the senior officer role would work with the economic and trade policy team to assist both established Canadian companies in the UK and British companies with existing operations in Canada, to address concerns around trade policy or market access barriers.
- Support positive relationships with Canadian and UK business leaders, trade associations, regional future mobility and space industries.
- Develop and implement high impact, targeted marketing programs and events in conjunction with stakeholder partners to build our brand awareness, promote key messaging, and showcase UK competitiveness in AEM industry.
- Keep pace with market trends, incentives and centres of excellence in North America and the UK to identify commercial opportunities and provide informed advice to clients and stakeholders.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-impact programming, including developing and hosting round tables, seminars and trade missions, and contributing to VIP visit programs.
- Support cross-team projects to advance UK economic and trade policy goals.
- Support with export delivery as required by wider team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Resources managed (staff and expenditure):
- Line management of one Investment Officer.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Demonstrated experience in a professional and client focused environment with relevant public and/or private sector, economic or business development capacity.
- Thorough knowledge of current market trends and business ecosystems within future mobility (automotive/ commercial aviation) and space across Quebec, Canada and preferably the UK.
- Excellent stakeholder management abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and networking skills.
- Excellent management and collaboration skills with the ability to deliver results.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and complete work while traveling.
- An understanding of the UK’s investment proposition and business environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in Office 365 and Microsoft Teams is essential.
- Must be able to attend events outside of office hours and undertake travel in Canada and internationally up to 20% of your time.

- Knowledge of the UK investment and business environment.
- Knowledge of the UK- Canada bilateral business relationship.
- B2B sales and and/or marketing experience.
- Experience in a supervisory role.
