Role: Associate Legal Counsel (12 Month Contract)

Reports to: Senior Counsel

Location: Mississauga Flexible Commuter

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. This 12 month parental leave contract is part of the 2-person in-house legal team managing day-to-day legal matters, strategies and tactics associated with Amgen’s operations in Canada. This dynamic position will provide broad legal support services to Amgen Canada’s commercial, medical, regulatory and related business functions in a fast-moving and collaborative environment.

Work is in a FlexSpace environment which is predominantly home-based with flexibility to attend the Mississauga office to meet the needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Support

  • Interpreting Canadian law and regulations

  • Advising on legal issues in multiple fields, including commercial, healthcare compliance

  • Research, drafting and providing legal risk assessments

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements, including commercial, product listing and healthcare contracts

  • Reviewing promotional and non-promotional materials

  • Development/updating of legal training, contract templates, legal processes

  • Support on other matters, e.g. corporate administration

  • Accountabilities

  • Able to provide sound and pragmatic legal advice in line with Canadian legislation and case law and remain up to date with relevant legal changes

  • Able to apply learnings to different situations

  • Able to work independently with some supervision and with cross-functional teams

  • Sound individual contributor who is valued by clients for providing legal advice focused on achieving business objectives

What we expect of you

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The professional we seek is an individual with these qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Licensed lawyer practicing in Ontario, member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada, Barreau du Québec or qualified to practice law by a provincial bar association in Canada

  • Law degree from a recognized law school

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of law practice at a top law firm and/or experience working in a legal department of a company in a regulated industry

  • Experience/knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and legal environment

  • Understanding of Amgen business

  • Track record of ethical judgement/behavior, maturity, problem solving and decision-making

  • Excellent analytic, legal drafting, oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to balance ideal legal outcomes with the reality of commercial goals

  • A positive attitude, strong commitment to ethical conduct, collaboration and creativity, results-orientation, awareness of cultural diversity

  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities

  • Discreet and able to protect confidential information and sensitive internal matters
