The Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education (LHAE) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education is a dynamic and inclusive learning community comprised of scholars focused oneducational leadership and administration, policy and change, social justice and community engagement.

LHAE offers three graduate programs that consider education across the lifespan: Adult Education and Community Development, Educational Leadership and Policy, and Higher Education. These programs are enriched by our internationally-recognized faculty and the diversity of our students.

Your opportunity:

Under the direction of the Academic Programs Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for promoting LHAE graduate programs among potential applicants, recruiting top students, and supporting student retention and success. This includes: assisting with the development, and organization of events and information sessions to promote the graduate programs and to improve the experiences of current students; representing LHAE at graduate recruiting events by providing information about the programs and answering inquiries from prospective students; and conceptualizing, promoting and coordinating all aspects of recruitment and student events both on and off-campus including workshops and information sessions such as career workshops.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on program and/or course requirements by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
  • Checking completeness of applications
  • Drafting appeals and cases for special consideration
  • Promoting programs at recruitment events
  • Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
  • Editing content for brochures, newsletters,websites and/or handbooks
  • Providing basic support and general referrals to individuals in distress

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of recent and relevant experience including experience in student admissions and student services; event planning; administrative support, interpretation of policies and rules, in a university setting.
  • Experience advising students with relevant academic guidelines and procedures and other related information.
  • Experience organizing student events and workshops.
  • Experience with preparing information and promotional material.
  • Experience conductingpresentations to a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience conducting data analysis, compiling data, and preparing reports.
  • Experience working in a busy, fast-paced environment with a high volume of student inquiries.
  • Demonstratedexcellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Intermediate skills with a University student information system (such as Acorn, ROSI, Slate) or related system.
  • Demonstrated superior organizational and time management skills, attention to detail and accuracy; Strong analytical and problem solving skills, professional manner, tact, diplomacy, ability to work well with all levels of faculty, staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle conflicting priorities and deadlines; to interpret and advise on policy.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills under high stress situations.
  • Excellent customer service and presentation skills.
  • Sound knowledge of University and School of Graduate Studies policies and procedures.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to diversity issues.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 10 — $70,844. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $90,595. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
