(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check)Required for Professional RegistrationJob DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Reporting to the Manager or designate, performs professional social work of advanced complexity. Assists clients and their families with complex psychiatric and psychosocial problems. Carries out a variety of case management and treatment functions. This work will emphasize extensive consultation with staff, the Ministry for Children and Families, and community agencies regarding the severe and significant level of client’s functional impairment.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceMasters of Social Work degree (MSW) from an accredited school of Social Work. Registered with the BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW). A minimum of two years of experience working in a paediatric/psychiatric setting or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Skills And Abilities
- Ability to use initiative and exercise judgement.
- Ability to work independently on complex matters.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish priorities and organize workload.
- Ability to deal effectively with others in a complex, multi-agency environment.
- Ability to engage children and adolescents.
- Ability to manage crisis family situations
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the acute care health environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of community agencies and resources
- Demonstrated group leadership and public speaking skills
