You will take ownership of delivering course material and assessing student performance. You will facilitate undergraduate courses in one or more of the following disciplines: Environmental Science. You will take pride in aligning your teaching with our mission of championing student success and engaging a diverse student classroom.Sessional Faculty is required to work on-site at the New Westminster Campus located at 88 6th Street beginning April 2025. Classes run between 8.45am – 9pm, Monday to Saturday and are assigned based on availability.What’s in it for youImpact. - Create a positive learning experience. You will deliver exceptional course material in your area(s) of expertise. You will implement inclusive teaching practices that anticipate, value, and respond to diverse learner needs and experiences. You will evaluate learning using a variety of effective assessment mechanisms. You will use the University’s LMS Brightspace, classroom technologies and other digital resources to support teaching and learning.
- Support student success. You will offer academic advice and guidance to students by holding regular office hours to support learning outcomes. You will provide timely, constructive feedback and responses to correspondence.
- Expand your knowledge. You will engage in reflective practice and ongoing professional development, leveraging information from various sources, including student evaluations of learning, to identify areas for growth as an educator. You will contribute to and learn from interactions within and outside of your department, participating in meetings and events as needed.
- Leverage expertise. You will collaborate cross-functionally with academic and student services, teaching and learning design, program leadership, and student services to meet our high delivery and evaluation standards and ensure the integrity of the learning experience.
- Contribute to our growth as an exceptional post-secondary institution. You will work with administrators and colleagues to advance your academic area and enhance the Yorkville community. You will contribute to promoting core values, distinctive capabilities and a positive culture that supports equity, inclusion, learning, and wellness. You will uphold the integrity of academic and university policies and comply with provincial and federal legislation.
You have:
- The education and academic background. You have a graduate degree in a relevant field and demonstrated experience in teaching at the university level or at another post-secondary institution. A PhD or terminal degree is preferred.
- The teaching skills. You are a dynamic teacher, passionate about your field and excited to share your knowledge with your students. You have the self-awareness and keen observation skills to understand when and how to adapt your content delivery methods. You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to respond to the needs of a classroom with diverse backgrounds and learning styles. You prioritize fostering an inclusive learning environment and are deeply committed to nurturing engagement and student success. Ideally, you have experience teaching international students.
- The interpersonal skills. You can build trusting and influential relationships and nurture strong networks. You have a proven ability to work collaboratively to achieve common goals. You exercise mature decision-making, smoothly navigate conflict, practice discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
- The technical skills. You are proficient with MS Office, LMS platforms and educational technologies.
