Mulgrave is one of Canada’s leading independent co-educational pre-K – 12 day schools, serving the North Shore of Vancouver. We are an established IB Continuum World School with a reputation for excellence and innovation. We are now seeking teachers to lead our summer programs.
Reporting to the Learning Strategies Coordinator & Senior School Principal, this position will provide learning and language support for students, helping them reach their academic potential in collaboration with classroom teachers. The teacher will work predominantly with students on Individual Educational Plans or require support in math and one science specialty but will have some time allocated within classrooms to assist other students with unique learning needs. There may be an opportunity to schedule one regular class teaching commitment. This assignment may include co-curricular responsibilities which supplement our educational programme.
Duties and Responsibilities
Including but not limited to the following:
- Work with students with unique needs in an inclusive classroom setting as well as on an individualised or small group basis
- Supporting students in a variety of subject areas with planning, organisation, time management and study skills
- Writing and maintaining student records including IEPs and School Based Team Review documents
- Level A and B assessments
- Working in a collaborative team
- Preparing additional resources and materials to support learning differences
- Providing opportunities for classroom teachers to understand the unique needs of students assigned
- Work with English Language Learners (ELL) as well as students with diverse learning needs..
- Communicate an understanding of the diverse range and needs of language learners
All Mulgrave teachers are expected to:
- Develop a classroom environment that builds positive relationships and fosters an ethic of care
- Design, prepare and deliver learning activities that facilitate authentic engagement
- Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
- Use relevant technology to enhance instruction and learning
- Design and implement a range of authentic formative and summative assessments, providing appropriate and timely feedback to students
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress for the purposes of teaching, learning and reporting
- Participate in faculty and parent meetings and special events
- Model respectful and timely communication with students, colleagues and parents
- Attend professional development workshops as required by the school
- Endorse the school’s mission and values
Qualifications:
- Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada.
- All of the requirements and certifications to teach in BC.
- Relevant training and coursework in Special Education and ELL programming
- Hold an age appropriate First Aid Certificate.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Grade 9/10 and Diploma (Gr. 11/12) and mathematics programmes of the International Baccalaureate
- Ability to teach in a secondary school subject(s).
- Experience teaching in a technology rich environment.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff members, students, parents, and outside community agencies and partners.
