HIS280Y1Y – History of China
A critical history of the place we today call China from prehistoric times to the 21st century, tracing shifting borders, identities, governments, and cultures while challenging any singular definition of “China.”
Minimum qualifications:
Master of Arts in History or related field required. Mastery of the subject area as related to the course description above required.
Preferred qualifications: PhD in History preferred. Demonstrated evidence of superior undergraduate teaching preferred. Previous experience teaching a similar course is highly desirable.
Description of duties:
Developing a syllabus; course preparation, lecturing, marking. There will be 48 hours of lectures in this course and one office hour per teaching week. Supervision of TA(s) in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 Collective Agreement. This course will be offered online synchronous with an in-person final exam.
Duties of this position shall be performed at the campus on which the position is located.
Sessional Dates of Appointment: May 1 – August 31, 2025
Estimated Course Enrolment: 60 students
Estimate of TA Support: 276 hours
Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday 20:00-22:00 (online synchronous)
Rate of Pay:
Sessional Lecturer I: $18,915.79
Sessional Lecturer 1, Long term: $19,861.58
Sessional Lecturer II: $20,243.53
Sessional Lecturer II, Long term: $20,653.23
Sessional Lecturer III: $20,725.52
Sessional Lecturer III, Long term: $21,140.03
