The Department of Political Science at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for a tenure-track position in Canadian Politics, with a concentration on Constitutional Law, and with additional ability to teach in the subfield of International Relations. This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor. The expected start date of the appointment is July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Hiring salary will be $79,132 to $98,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree in Political Science or a closely related field. We seek candidates who will contribute broadly to the delivery of curriculum in the Department’s academic concentrations (Political Science, International Relations, Canadian Public Policy, and Philosophy). The successful candidate will be expected to mount an externally funded research program that includes both undergraduate and graduate students and will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in the above fields and Canadian Constitutional Law.

The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision, and the successful candidate must be suitable for appointment to the School of Graduate Studies. Ideally, the candidate’s research programme and funding will be attractive to international graduate students.

The successful candidate will bring complementary experience and expertise to the department that will support the diversification of our curricular and research interests. We are seeking a candidate who can engage and inspire students at all levels in their academic work, and who will show initiative in contributing to the department’s programs and development with the University.

The successful candidate will join the Political Science team, which consists of 4 research-active professors as well as active sessional instructors and associate members of the Department. In addition to a strong undergraduate program, the department seeks to raise its graduate program profile. The Political Science Department is a founding member of the Philosophy, Politics and Law Program (PPL), an undergraduate 21-course major for a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Law, and is closely allied with the Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy, specifically participating in the Institute’s Work Integrated Learning Program with the City of Lethbridge (the City Scholars program).
