Position Description

The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University invites applications for a position in the Finance and Business Economics Area at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure. The position will begin on July 1, 2026. The successful candidate will hold the CIBC Chair in Financial Markets. The appointment to the Chair will be for an initial period of five years, with the possibility of renewal for additional terms.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to all aspects of academic activities, including research, teaching, and service. In particular, the successful candidate will contribute to research and scholarship through publishing in high-quality journals in financial economics, participating in prominent national and international academic conferences, actively pursuing research grants, promoting research collaboration, and supervising students in their areas of expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the School’s academic programs at both its Hamilton and Burlington locations, and support the School’s initiatives within the business, academic and other external communities.

The minimum requirements for the position include:

(i) a Ph.D. in Finance, Financial Economics, or other finance-related fields from a reputable institution;
(ii) evidence of a strong scholarly record including publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and acquisition of research funding; and
(iii) a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and supervision of graduate students.

The Finance and Business Economics Area, the largest of eight Areas comprising the DeGroote School of Business, is committed to excellence in both research and teaching. The School offers a number of programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Finance and Business Economics Area participates in these programs in several ways, and mounts MBA specializations in Finance and Strategic Business Valuation, a Master of Finance program, and a Ph.D. field in Finance.
