The Department of Computational Arts in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Integrative Arts. The successful candidate will be appointed as Program Coordinator, Integrative Arts with an initial three-year term, with the possibility of renewal upon successful review. This is a teaching-centred, tenure-track appointment to commence July 1st, 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate-level courses and to provide creative educational leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation in the classroom and at the program level. As Program Coordinator the successful candidate will be responsible for course development, program administration, recruitment/retention and collaboration with faculty across the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design.
Integrative Arts https://ampd.yorku.ca/integrative-arts/ is a pan-faculty program in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design that combines artistic and technological skills with an emphasis on artistic and creative methodology, transdisciplinary study of the arts, and engagement in the creative industries, all taking place within a social justice and decolonial framework. The program responds to changing student demand and industry needs by facilitating individualized student pathways through the program and culminating in collaborative capstone projects.
Candidate Qualifications:
• A PhD, or a PhD equivalent (such as an MA/MFA with a substantial record of professional experience) in integrative arts as defined above, or a related field, is required.
• An active creative practice with a teaching focus on artistic and creative methodologies in emerging technologies and transdisciplinary study of the arts is required.
• A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching at the university level (e.g., teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations, student and/or peer evaluations).
• A record or evident promise of making valuable contributions through administrative and committee service, as well as coordinating the Integrative Arts Program is required.
• Strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to integrative arts teaching, learning and program design, and evidence of good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching. Experience with curriculum development, program design and inclusive approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred.
• Engagement in the creative industries with experience in leadership in social justice and decolonial pedagogical development is preferred.
