Purchasing Lead

Point Hope Maritime, a full-service shipyard strategically located on the harbour in Victoria, BC has an exciting and immediate opening for a Purchasing Lead in Victoria, BC. This is a 1-year temporary position to cover a maternity leave.
Reporting to the Manager – Purchasing, Equipment, & Logistics, the Purchasing Lead will be responsible for coordinating purchasing activities, managing supplier relationships, and supporting operational requirements.
Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly – 1 year Temporary (may lead to ongoing position)
Hours of Work: regularly 40 hours per week
Hourly Rate: $33.00

Reporting to: Manager – Purchasing, Equipment, & Logistics

Responsibilities:
- Receive incoming orders, match packing slips to shipments, and safely unload palletized deliveries using a forklift.
- Monitor and maintain warehouse inventory levels, ensuring supplies are available and storage areas remain tidy and organized.
- Review requisitions, identify appropriate suppliers, and generate purchase orders within the ERP system.
- Place orders directly with suppliers for materials, tools, parts, subcontractor services, and consumables.
- Track and arrange delivery schedules to align with operational needs and business flow requirements.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to secure the best pricing, quality, and reliability.
- Communicate effectively via email and in person with team members and suppliers to confirm product specifications and order details.
- Receive and process orders in the ERP system, notify recipients of arrivals, and restock consumables into the warehouse as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Knowledge of warehouse operations and inventory management practices.
- Experience managing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing, and ensuring timely delivery of materials and services.
- 3–5 years of experience, preferably in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain
- management, preferably in construction, contracting, or related industries.
- Experience using ERP systems to generate purchase orders, track shipments, and maintain accurate records.
- Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience supervising or leading a small team in a purchasing or warehouse environment is an asset.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Computer proficiency (MS Office, email, data entry)
- Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
Requirements:
- Must have a current and valid class 5 driver’s license
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
