Applications are invited for a full-time Limited Term academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The initial appointment will be up to 3 years with the potential for renewal. The successful applicant will be appointed in a Basic Science Department within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry best suited to the applicant’s discipline.
Qualified candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in a discipline relevant to the biomedical sciences. In addition, a Masters of Education (MEd) or other formal training in education/pedagogy would be considered an asset. The candidate’s interests and areas of expertise should complement and support existing and future areas of study of the undergraduate Bachelor of Medical Science (BMSc) programs and the Masters in Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences (IMS) program, both of which are strengths of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University. The candidate is expected to have experience in teaching students using multiple modalities (e.g., in an online learning environment, in small group tutorials, in moderate to large classroom settings, in blended learning settings, and in laboratory settings). The candidate is also expected to have curriculum design experience, especially with creating online materials. Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of performance in previous teaching and leadership roles, qualifications, and overall experience.
The successful candidate will take an active role in course development, teaching, student mentorship, and administration within the Interdisciplinary Medical Science (IMS) Undergraduate and Graduate programs, to play a key role in the implementation and development of the interdisciplinary medical sciences curriculum, and to use the opportunity to undertake and demonstrate scholarship in education.
The candidate will teach medical science content at the senior undergraduate level in the IMS core courses and laboratories; this includes molecular biology techniques and/or clinical research approaches. The candidate will also participate in the further development and delivery of the graduate course-based IMS program, which launched in May 2021 and has been steadily growing. The position will entail active collaboration and coordination with colleagues in developing and delivering interdisciplinary courses that examine multiple perspectives of normal human function as well as diseases or illnesses (e.g., atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes, neurodegenerative brain disorders).

Western, like many postsecondary institutions in Canada, is moving beyond sole reliance upon Indigenous self-identification in its hiring processes. This is to safeguard against the use of incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information in circumstances in which a candidate has made a declaration of Indigenous citizenship or membership. Candidates who are invited for an interview or who are short-listed, and who have made a declaration of Indigenous citizenship or membership for material advantage at Western, including where required or preferred for the position, will be asked to have their declaration of Indigenous citizenship or membership (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) affirmed through a relational accountability process, led by the Office of Indigenous Initiatives (OII), that is consistent with Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing. Please contact the OII directly for details on the affirmation processes: https://indigenous.uwo.ca/. The policy can be viewed at: POLICY 1.58 – Affirming Declarations of Indigenous Citizenship or Membership at Western University.
