TERM ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN SOCIOLOGY

The Department of Social Science at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John invites applications for a 10-month term position in Sociology. This position is at the rank of Assistant Professor and is housed within an interdisciplinary department that includes Social Work, Sociology, Communication Studies and Education. The Department of Social Science offers major, double-major, and honours programmes in Sociology. The term position will commence as of August 1, 2026 and is subject to budgetary approval. The successful candidate may be eligible for a moving allowance in accordance with the collective agreement.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Sociology or cognate discipline or be near completion. Candidates who have not completed a Ph.D. may be considered for appointment as Lecturer. The successful candidate will be expected to teach six courses over the academic year at the undergraduate level. This position is to cover courses for faculty on leave. The discipline requires coverage of courses including Introduction to Sociology (multiple sections) and specialization in areas related to criminology, research methods as well as Indigenous Studies is an asset as is the ability to teach online. There may be opportunity for the successful candidate to design a course in their specific research area. The teaching assignments will be determined in consultation with the discipline and the successful candidate.

The salary range and fringe benefits for this position are defined in the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT) 2022 – 2025 Collective Agreement sections 35 and 36B.
