The Advanced Concepts team explores the edges of possibility in apparel by investigating emerging materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods. We work at the intersection of design, science, and storytelling to bring future-facing concepts to life through tangible prototypes and immersive experiences that inspire the future of lululemon.
core responsibilities
At lululemon, we’re not just designing products, we’re shaping the future of athletic performance apparel and style. As an Advanced Concepts Senior Designer, you’ll bring innovative product ideas to life, blending practical insights, cutting-edge materials, and construction expertise to create apparel that aligns with our design ethos and philosophy. You’ll be at the forefront of pushing boundaries, developing designs across a wide range of performance apparel including outerwear, sport bras to gender-fluid pieces.
what you’ll do:
- Innovative Design Leadership: Create breakthrough products across various categories, including performance, gender-fluid, knits, wovens, tops, and bottoms, all while staying true to the lululemon ethos.
- Design Development: Attend fit sessions with an obsessive attention to detail to ensure every stitch is perfect. Lead the design process from conceptualization to final product, ensuring excellence in performance, function, and aesthetics.
- Collaborative Problem-Solving: Partner with Research, Concept Creation, Raw Materials, and Product Innovation teams to ideate, refine, and evolve design concepts, always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
- Pressure-Test Assumptions: Oversee the design process by conducting wear-testing, validation, and material development, ensuring each idea is tested rigorously and refined to meet lululemon’s high standards.
- Storytelling & Communication: Prepare compelling presentations that communicate the innovation behind your designs—crafting narratives, toolboxes, and frameworks that bring your concepts to life for key stakeholders.
- Talent Development & Knowledge Sharing: Share your expertise with teammates, helping them grow and develop their own design skills. Foster a collaborative, knowledge-sharing environment that elevates the entire team.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside cross-functional teams; Concept Creation, including Technical Design, Research, and Labs, to ensure seamless integration of new ideas into the product pipeline.
- Drive Commercial Success: Focus on creating commercially viable innovations that resonate with our guests and align with lululemon’s strategic business goals.
what you bring:
- A deep passion for creating innovative, performance and functionally led apparel that redefines the on-body experience of athletic apparel.
- Expertise in product construction, trims, materials, and apparel manufacturing with a keen eye for the finest details.
- A collaborative mindset, eager to work across teams to bring your ideas to life.
- Experience in leading the design process from concept to final product, including pressure testing, wear-testing, and material development.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas in a clear, inspiring way.
- A commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing to help elevate the team’s collective talent.Requisite Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Product Design, Fashion Design, Industrial Design or a related field; advanced degree preferred or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the performance apparel industry.
- High profile communication and influencing skills, including the ability to interact and update leaders on status to ensure alignment.
- Expert knowledge of performance apparel and sport bra design, construction, and manufacturing.
- Proficient understanding of guest and elite athlete product needs, design, construction, and product creation best practices and expertise in development time management with strong communication skills.
- High profile communication and ability to interact with key internal business stakeholders and partners.
- Adjust to changing circumstances and adapt to ensure product creation excellence.
- In-depth understanding of the innovation creation calendar dates and gates, with the ability to adjust direction based on compressed timelines/ Athlete and Business needs
- The ability to travel 30% of the time

compensation and benefits package
lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $129,00-163,900 CAD annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
