Our client is a legal advisory firm. They are looking for Accounting Manager who will be responsible overseeing daily accounting operations, payroll, trust accounting, and financial reporting while supervising a small team and supporting budgeting, forecasting, and regulatory compliance. About the Opportunity?
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations including A/P, A/R, billing, trust accounting, and general ledger
- Supervise and mentor a team of up to 3 direct reports including a bookkeeper and admin clerks
- Manage legal financial workflows, including credit recoveries, clawbacks on legal/service-related payments, and disbursement tracking
- Ensure proper accounting treatment of legal fees, commissions, bonuses, and prepaid card disbursements
- Oversee payroll processing via ADP, including handling of bonuses and special disbursements
- Review and reconcile trust and general accounts in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Prepare monthly financial statements, variance analyses for firm leadership
- Prepare budgeting and cash flow forecasting efforts; monitor department spending and budget adherence
- Ensure timely and accurate bank reconciliations, journal entries, and account adjustments
- Participate in reviewing EFT/vendor payments, internal expense reports, and quarterly filings (e.g., HST, levy forms)
- Collaborate with legal and recovery teams to align financial workflows with legal case demands
- Identify opportunities to improve internal processes, strengthen controls, and increase efficiency across accounting operations
- Provide guidance and training to team members, encourage cross-training and knowledge sharing
- Utilize accounting software and business intelligence and data visualization tool ie. Power BI and/or Spend Dynamics
About You?
- CPA designation (or in progress); candidates with strong relevant law firm experience may also be considered.
- Experience with legal financial processes including credit recoveries, legal transactions, clawback disbursements, legal fee handling, payroll and bonuses, and prepaid card disbursements.
- Background in small to mid-sized companies with a hands-on approach to accounting.
- Proficient in full-cycle and day-to-day accounting operations.
- Industry experience in law firms, insurance/claims accounting, collections, lending, or similar sectors.
- Experience in managing and developing accounting or finance teams.
- Proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Dynamics 365.
Salary Range?
$90,000 – $100,000/year?
