Job description
- The ADU Project Resource is a member of the pharmacy team and acts as an expert resource on the implementation and integration of automated dispensing units within the organization, alongside the Automation Lead, the ADU and Narcotic Specialist and the Project Management Department.
- The ADU Project Resource works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams throughout the organization to help implement, integrate, educate and support the replacement of the ADU fleet.
- The ADU Project Resource reflects the mission, vision and values of RVH, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Licensing:
- Registered Pharmacy Technician, in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
- Graduate of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician College or Program, preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years recent practical experience in a hospital pharmacy setting as a Pharmacy Technician
Competencies:
- Relevant experience with the MEDITECH Pharmacy Modules
- Knowledge of Automated Dispensing Units, including the Automated Narcotic Vault
- Familiarity with all processes and technology related to medication distribution
- Sound problem solving, communications (oral and written), conflict resolution and decision making skills
- Excellent organizational skills and time management
- Ability to create reports and analyze data

Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Project Management as the subject matter expert to support vendor selection, scoring and outlining the requirements of the facility based on growing needs, expansion plans and existing pressure points.
- Work with the vendor to build the plans for each ADU that will be replaced including size, dimensions, configuration (i.e. storage considerations such as drawers, cabinetry, bins, OR trays, etc,) as well as plans for units that are purchasing a new machine.
- Meet with leaders of individual inpatient units to understand current needs, pressure points, and expansion plans in order to optimize the build of each individual machine to meet our growing needs.
- Incorporate existing knowledge about our physical space limitations, drug utilization patterns, medication PAR levels, and unit specific requirements, as well as the landscape of new formulary medication additions.
- Build the drug library into the new ADU software as well as map each drug entry to each unit and individual machine.
- Work closely with Project Management and the ADU Specialist on an implementation plan that incorporates minimal service disruptions to individual units, downtime, cutover, and manual moves with the help of facilities and the vendor .
- Work closely with Project Management and Professional Practice to design and provide education to all end-users to ensure the smoothest transition possible as well as support the post-implementation optimization period
- Provide initial and ongoing education to pharmacy technicians during implementation, relating to ADUs and the medication management system, including:
- functionality of systems and related processes, as appropriate
- downtime procedures
- Maintain a record of all orientation provided to pharmacy staff during implementation.
- Act as a resource to pharmacy users (pharmacists and technicians) during implementation, alongside the ADU and Narcotic Specialist, regarding functionality and procedures as they relate to the ADUs during the implementation phase.
- Act as a resource to nurse users during implementation regarding functionality and procedures as they relate to the ADUs.
- Set up and maintenance of ADU’s and Controlled Substance Management (CSM) in collaboration with the ADU and Narcotic Specialist, with respect to dictionaries, cost reports, kits, temperature monitoring, bar code database, safety stock, dispensing alerts, restock lists and narcotic reports.
- Implement reports on Narcotic/Controlled Substances and any high alert medications that fall within the audit requirements as per regulatory and accreditation standards.
