Overview
As EDC aims to be the leader in helping all Canadian companies go, grow and succeed internationally, and has launched an ambitious agenda to be more relevant to more Canadian businesses. The Export Help is part of EDC’s Small Business and Partnership group and is responsible for addressing a wider spectrum of Canadian companies’ needs as they strive to grow their businesses beyond Canada. We do so by providing Canadian companies with tailored answers, resources and referrals so they can move forward more confidently in their export journey.
Reporting to the Director of Knowledge Business, the group is seeking an Export Advisor. The Advisor will be responsible for responding to inquiries related to international regulations, sales and marketing, customs and compliance, market intelligence and risk mitigation. In this capacity, the Export Help Advisor will be required to find answers to customer problems and add value by leveraging EDC’s internal experts and content as well as accessing resources from the export services ecosystem across Canada and internationally. The Advisor contribute to building and maintaining our Export Help Hub database of knowledge and expertise in the field of international trade. This role is market-facing in that the execution of the assigned initiatives requires the incumbent to interact with internal and external parties, including customers and key relationships, in a team-based but independent manner with limited supervision on a day-to-day basis.

Discipline Summary

Meets service level agreement targets by furnishing responses to export inquiries

Promotes and drives awareness of advisory offering through blogging, and other awareness raising activities

Identifies opportunities for companies to benefit from EDC’s portfolio of products and services and provides internal referrals accordingly

Develops, follows and creates Team best practices with respect to fielding and closing incoming inquiries

Leverage understanding of the needs of Canadian micro and small companies to identify gaps and opportunities for knowledge product solutions

Maintains the knowledge management system and trade knowledge database
Key Responsibilities
-
Consistently and independently fields Export Help Hub requests by providing relevant information, while improving customer value and highlighting EDC’s value proposition

Displays strong business expertise by providing accurate and relevant trade information to companies, responding to client requests directly
-
Using a limited amount of information from inquiring companies, gain an understanding of the context of the export enquiry to assess client’s information needs
-
Enters company, contacts, inquiries, leads in the EDC’s CRM database and route sales-ready leads to most relevant sales teams at EDC

Builds and maintains network of external contacts and works closely with customer facing roles to raise awareness of EDC’s trade expertise in assigned region

Manages, prioritizes and responds to inbound trade-related inquiries on a prescribed SLA (via various marketing and sales channels including phone, email, web, chat, social media-based channels, events and on occasion face-to-face) received from prospective clients
Screening Criteria
-
Undergraduate Degree in International Business, Business Administration, Finance, Commerce or other relevant discipline
-
Minimum of 2 years (Senior Associate) or a minimum of 5 years (Advisor) of international business experience (either directly or in an advisory services)
-
Knowledge of the export ecosystem including resources and service providers (government and private sector) that are available to assist companies with export related challenges

Must be comfortable with handling inbound enquiries over the web, social media and chat forums on a daily basis

Bilingual (English and French)
Assets
-
Consulting or counseling experience with small and medium sized businesses
-
Technical experience in the following industry verticals: supply chain management, shipping, customs clearance, document management, international business development, international sales and marketing, international strategy development and e-commerce

Prior experience as a trade commissioner/officer
-
Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) Designation
Compensation Details:
- Knowledge Serv. (Prod Mgmt) 17: Salaries typically range from $83,037 to $110,717 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.

This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from the Community Hub in Montreal or Toronto.
