Microstructural characterization is usually achieved by allowing some form of probe to interact with prepared samples. This course is an introduction to materials characterization techniques and explores the methodologies of materials characterization: crystal structure, microstructural morphology, and Chemical microanalysis. The main methods of characterization include: (1) X-ray and electron diffractions; (2) optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, (3) X-ray and electron spectroscopy. The micro-analytical techniques include both qualitative and quantitative methods.
