The course focuses on acquiring competencies and skills relevant to the doctrinal method of comparative law and the challenges involved in identifying and translating comparable legal phenomena by theme, function, or affected subjects. Additionally, the course emphasizes and encourages interdisciplinarity, drawing on the study of multiple legal traditions and legal anthropology, so that students can establish relationships between law, governance, culture, and politics across various contemporary civilizations.

Requirements:
The Common Law Section is seeking candidates who have the expertise, skills, vision, and energy to reinforce uOttawa’s position as a leader in graduate education in law. An LL.B., J.D., or equivalent is required for this position. A PhD in law is preferred but not essential. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario, or equivalent, in good standing is preferred. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in legal research and writing at the graduate level, as well as knowledge mobilization and interdisciplinary research. The successful candidate must also have prior teaching experience in those areas and teaching experience at the graduate level, including familiarity with the field of comparative law.
The Common Law Section reserves the right to select a candidate who does not fully meet each of these requirements, where the candidate’s selection would be beneficial to the program, the course, the students or for a related reason.

The candidate may be required to teach this course either online, in-person or hybrid mode at the discretion of the Faculty and in accordance with public health guidelines.
