Team Overview
The Legal Services Group is an integral part of EDC. It consists of approximately 30 lawyers with extensive knowledge and experience in many areas of law.

Practice areas are often within the context of Canada’s and EDC’s international agreements, and include: structured finance and corporate lending, insurance law, administrative law, procurement law, commercial law, corporate law, regulatory law, employment law, international trade law, and litigation.

While articling at EDC, students have the opportunity to attend educational seminars offered by EDC, the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association, and other organizations in areas relevant to the work of the Legal Services Group.
Responsibilities

Gain practical experience.

Articling students will work closely with EDC’s diverse in house legal team and participate in interviews and meetings with EDC’s internal clients and external parties, including, as needed, with external counsel, external bankers, and liaise with representatives of various ministries and government agencies.

Sharpen drafting, writing and research skills.

Articling students will draft and/or provide analysis in respect of various legal documents including: credit agreements (loan agreements, lines of credit, etc.), guarantees, amending agreements, security agreements, insurance policies and endorsements, confidentiality agreements, employment agreements, and service procurement agreements in addition to performing legal research on work-related issues, including employment law matters and litigation issues. Articling students also review and comment on documentation prepared by internal and external legal counsel.

Improve your communication and negotiation skills.

The Legal Services Group emphasizes effective communication between client and lawyer. Articling students are encouraged to participate in meetings and negotiations with internal clients, internal and external legal counsel, and other related parties.
Screening Criteria
- A Juris Doctor (J.D), Bachelor of Law (L.L.B), or Bachelor of Civil Law (L.L.L) completed by end of May 2025 and eligible to commence articling in 2025.
