Position Description:
The Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics, in the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba (UM) is seeking a qualified individual working in any field of Cancer Biology to fill a full-time, probationary (tenure-track) or tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the University of Manitoba Faculty Association collective agreement.

The successful candidate will develop a nationally funded research program in Cancer Biology that complements the Department of Biochemistry & Medical Genetics’ research strengths in cancer biology, stem cells, genomics, functional genetics, and bioinformatics. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach in the fields of genetics and/or biochemistry. The position could begin as early as September 1st , 2025, or as negotiated.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with basic and clinical researchers in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and clinical research centres, (e.g., Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute CancerCare Manitoba and the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba). The new faculty member will be able to engage with resources and core research facilities, including the Small Animal and Materials Imaging Facility, the Genetic Engineered Model Services, and the Bioinformatics Core Platform among others (https://umanitoba.ca/health-sciences/research/centres-services-platforms). Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Applicants with expertise in Cancer Biology, with a general focus on genetics and/or biochemistry, are encouraged to apply to Position # 34704. Preference will be given to applicants with a research program suitable for both health (e.g., CIHR) and fundamental (e.g., NSERC) science grant funding. Candidates should hold a PhD and/or MD with at least 3 years of relevant postgraduate experience. Candidates must have an excellent research record, as evidenced by impactful publications; the potential to secure competitive extramural peer reviewed grants; and a history of effective and productive collaboration. Preference will be given to applicants with a track of mentorship. The potential for a strong linkage/collaboration between the candidate’s research program and the activities of one or more faculty members in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics or the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences is desired.

Job Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program. The candidate is also expected to teach within the Department of Biochemistry & Medical Genetics and the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the undergraduate and graduate student levels, and contribute to service activities within the department, the Faculty, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
