Description

The Department of Economics at the University of Calgary invites applications for an economist focusing on industrial organization or regulatory economics. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (with tenure). The target date for the appointment to begin is July 1, 2026.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Economics and be positioned to enhance the Department of Economics’ recognized strengths in industrial organization. They must therefore demonstrate a track record of producing influential research in industrial organization or its intersection with regulation and/or competition policy. They must also be willing to engage in collaborations within and beyond the University, participate in international professional networks, and actively contribute to undergraduate and graduate student teaching and supervision. The position also offers an opportunity to play a central role in the University of Calgary’s new Research Program in Competition & Regulation. This initiative will bring together academics, policymakers, regulators, and industry partners to address pressing questions in the design and implementation of competition and regulatory policies of significance both in Canada and internationally.

The successful candidate at the Assistant Professor level must have a demonstrated track-record of high-quality publications or clear evidence of potential to publish in leading peer-reviewed journals, and excellence in University-level teaching.

The successful candidate at the Associate Professor level must have a demonstrated track-record of sustained high-quality publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, a record of excellence in University-level teaching, and effective graduate student supervision.
