The Centre for Bioethics and the Division of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences invite applications for two tenure-stream positions in Bioethics.

These appointments will be at the rank of Assistant Professor although consideration may be given to hiring at the rank of Associate Professor. These appointments are anticipated to commence in September 2026.

Responsibilities
The successful candidates will join Memorial University’s Centre for Bioethics. Responsibilities include graduate teaching, maintaining a program of research, providing clinical ethics support to the province’s health authority, and participating in academic service activities. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.

The full complement of four Bioethics faculty are responsible for delivering the Master of Health Ethics (MHE) degree program. While priority must be given to the MHE program, successful candidates may also choose to engage in supervision of learners in the Division’s other graduate programs at the master’s and doctoral levels.

Bioethics faculty are responsible for the design and delivery of the core bioethics and health law content of the undergraduate medical (MD) program. They are also responsible for bioethics teaching in the postgraduate medical residency programs across a range of clinical disciplines.

Qualifications
The successful candidates must possess a PhD in philosophy, bioethics, or any other discipline with evidence of scholarship relevant to bioethics.

The Division of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences (PHAHS) is part of the Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine. PHAHS is home to graduate programs in the fields of public health and public health nutrition, community health and clinical epidemiology, applied health services

research, and bioethics. It contributes to the interdisciplinary occupational and health and safety graduate program and leads the development and delivery of the community health, and bioethics and health law components of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. PHAHS is home to Memorial University’s Centre for Bioethics and the Faculty of Medicine’s Office of Social Accountability. It is partner to the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Applied Health Research (NLCAHR) and the Human Neuroscience Research Centre.
