Opportunity
The Department of Humanities in the Faculty of Arts and Science invites applications for an entry-level, full-time, tenure-track appointment in Post-Confederation Canadian History at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2026, subject to final budgetary approval.

History at MacEwan University guides students to become critical, adaptable, and independent thinkers capable of applying their knowledge of past societies to twenty-first century challenges. Canadian History is a vital component to the History curriculum at MacEwan.

The Department of Humanities offers programs in Classics, French, History, Philosophy, and Spanish. Committed to teaching effectiveness and research impact, our faculty support students’ pursuit of a Liberal Arts education and provide mentorship at all levels of undergraduate study. Comfort in a multidisciplinary humanist environment and experience making connections between humanist disciplines are assets.

You will play a vital role in enhancing the Department of Humanities’ longstanding focus on Canadian History by developing courses and supervising students in your area of expertise.

You must have, or be close to completion of, a terminal degree in Canadian History and will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching and an ongoing research program.

You will submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier (including recent teaching evaluations), a statement of research interests, and a sample of scholarly work. Consideration of applicants will begin November 12, 2025 and continue until a suitable candidate is found.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Department Chair to provide three (3) letters of reference sent directly from referees. Only selected candidates will be required to submit official transcripts sent directly from the institutions where you completed your degrees.
