Assistant Professor- CLA Global Social Justice

The appointment will begin on January 1, 2026 and the successful candidate will be expected to teach 6-7 one-term courses per academic year.
The successful applicant must hold a doctorate in a Humanities or cognate discipline. We seek applicants with a strong interdisciplinary teaching and research agenda to teach core courses in the program.

The Global Peace and Social Justice program is committed to advancing understanding of the root causes of social injustice and violence locally, nationally and internationally. We seek scholars employing anti-racist, anti-colonial, feminist and/or social justice lenses who will enhance GPSJ’s community-engagement endeavours. Preferred areas of specialization include, but are not limited to, peace studies, human rights, global social justice, South Asian studies and community-engaged research and praxis. Applicants with research interests in Mahatma Gandhi and principles of nonviolence or protest movements are strongly encouraged to apply. Instructional design knowledge and skills to lead an online course development will be an asset.
In addition to teaching GPSJ program courses, the successful candidate will teach courses in the Gender and Social Justice undergraduate program, with opportunities for graduate-level teaching and supervision. Some courses that may be taught by the applicant include, “Peace, Justice, and Human Rights”; “Human Rights and Social Justice”; “Creating Social Change”; and special topics.

Service contributions will be an important and expected component of this position, and the candidate will work collaboratively with the program director to provide academic leadership and service to the program. We are seeking a candidate who views program-building and community engagement as a core part of their professional role. Key responsibilities will include supporting major events, including the Gandhi Lecture on Nonviolence and Gandhi Peace Festival hosted every Fall, leading the online course development of a Level 1 course and assisting with student engagement efforts, including outreach, recruitment and public communication.
