UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA – The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ottawa seeks creative, dynamic, and energetic individuals for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Engineering.
We welcome outstanding applicants with research and teaching interests in Computer Engineering, focusing on real-time systems, embedded systems, and/or computer architectures.
The ideal candidate has evidence of research excellence in Computer Engineering and will complement the existing expertise at the School. The candidate will be a member of the School and will contribute to teaching and supporting the university community.
Current research strengths in the School include applied Artificial Intelligence, computational geometry, software system verification and testing, requirements engineering, and ultra-reliable high-speed networks. Natural collaborations with local industries in this area include Ciena, Cisco, IBM, Amazon, Kinaxis, and many SMEs in Kanata North.
We are particularly interested in candidates whose research can contribute to the strategic areas of the Faculty of Engineering, such as (i) health care and augmented life and (ii) technologies for the digital transformation of society.
Title of the position: Assistant Professor
Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities revealed by research or professional work; c) supervision of graduate students; d) academic and professional service activities. The candidate will be expected to develop and lead an active nationally and internationally recognized research program, attract external research funding, supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty members, and participate in educational and professional activities, including administrative duties.
Terms: Tenure-track position
Wage: Salary scale for an assistant professor starts at $94,588 (as of May 1, 2023)

Skills requirements:
• Education: Ph.D. in Computer Engineering or equivalent. Postdoctoral experience is considered an asset.
• Work experience: Successful candidates should possess a strong research background and commitment to excellence in teaching and research. The candidates will be expected to initiate and maintain an innovative, externally funded research program and teach Computer Engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Because the University of Ottawa is Canada’s premier bilingual university, preference will be given to bilingual (French/English) candidates who can teach in both languages. Passive knowledge of the other official language in Canada is a requirement for tenure. Candidates must commit to contributing to a culture that supports diversity and inclusion. Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada needs to be satisfied at the time of tenure and thereafter.
