The Department of English Literatures at Mount Allison University is seeking applications for a full-time nine-month, sabbatical-replacement position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. The area of specialization will be contemporary literature and culture and American literature since the Civil War.

The successful candidate will teach five courses, in person: two introductory courses (one on literature and one on poetry), a second-year course that they will design under the title “Contemporary Literature and Culture,” and two third-year courses, “American Literature from the Civil War to the Present” and a course on a topic/area of their choice.

In their cover letters, applicants should describe their relevant teaching and research experience in the areas indicated above.

Interdisciplinary teaching practice

Indigenous/decolonized/antiracist teaching and learning

Pedagogical, therapeutic, and ethical deployments of literature

Learning competencies and skill development

Qualified candidates will have a PhD in English, either in hand or near completion. Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the teaching proposal described above to english@mta.ca. Further materials may be requested later in the search process. Review of applications will begin March 9, 2026.

Three letters of reference from academic referees should be sent directly from the referees to english@mta.ca . Application materials should be addressed to the Chair of the Search Committee, English Literature.

Questions can be addressed to:

Head, Department of English
