This is a full-time appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2025, subject to budgetary approval. While this is first and foremost a Music Education position, it is hoped that the successful candidate will also bring to the department a secondary area of expertise which would complement our existing faculty’s strengths. This could include, for example, expertise in teaching musicianship or aural skills; music performance; jazz, popular, or Indigenous musics; general education and pedagogy; or another area.
Preference will be given to candidates holding a doctorate in Music Education or a doctoral degree in another area of Music with significant practical experience in Music Education (for example, teaching in K-12 public schools). Evidence of excellence in research and a track-record of successful teaching at the university level are a priority for the committee, as is teaching experience in elementary or secondary schools. Experience with pre-service teacher training is a highly desired asset for this position.
This position represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the expansion and development of the Music Education program at Mount Allison in the coming years. The expected teaching load will be the equivalent of five courses over the academic year, both in Music Education and in the successful candidate’s secondary area of expertise. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the successful applicant will be expected to maintain an active research/creative activity profile and undertake departmental service including outreach, recruitment, and committee work. Candidates should exhibit an interest in building relationships with the regional school boards and provincial system, recruiting and mentoring students, and nurturing connections between the Music program and the broader liberal education curriculum at Mount Allison.
Application materials should include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and teaching philosophy statement. Three letters of reference should be sent directly by the referees. Finalists may be requested to submit additional materials (such as a teaching portfolio, writing sample, or teaching/conducting video). Applications should be sent to the address below. Electronic submissions are preferred.
Applicants are asked to clearly indicate both their citizenship/residency status and their secondary area of expertise (if any) in their cover letter or CV. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
