Brock University’s Teacher Education Program is located on two campuses. Brock University’s main campus is situated on land which is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Agreement.

About the Position  

The Faculty of Education invites applications for a 2-Year Instructional Limited Term Appointment (ILTA), in the Department of Educational Studies, in Science and Technology Education, in the Primary/Junior/Intermediate Teacher Education Program. This position involves teaching Science and Technology education and pedagogy across two teaching divisions (Primary/Junior (Grades K-6), and Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4-10)) as described by the Ontario curriculum. The two (2) year appointment, subject to budgetary approval, will commence January 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will have expertise in the area of Science Education, broadly defined to include pedagogies in Grades K-10 schooling and have familiarity with the Ontario Grade 1-8 and 9-10 Science and Technology, and Science Curriculum (P/J/I divisions).

Experience with Science Education in Ontario including the Science and Technology and Science curricula and teaching Science and Technology education at the P/J and J/I levels is essential. Additional experience with the Ontario Environmental Education (K-12) scope and sequence and Ontario’s Environmental Education policy, Acting Today, Shaping Tomorrow, is desirable. Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is required.

Qualifications   

Preferred candidates will have:
(1) A completed doctorate or equivalent in Science Education or related field is required. Doctoral candidates who are ABD may be considered if they meet the other qualifications. Equivalency for Indigenous candidates will also be considered,
(2) experience in university teaching and curriculum development in face-to-face and blended learning environments, particularly in Science and Technology education and pedagogy applicable to a teacher education program,
(3) experience n classroom teaching at the Primary/Junior/Intermediate levels (K-10),
(4) science disciplinary background (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth/Environmental Sciences) and school-based experiences teaching science/STEM in K–10 schools,
(4) experience in inquiry-based, experiential, environmental and sustainability education, and anti-oppressive pedagogies,
(5) familiarity with Indigenous perspectives in Science Education and the Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Calls to Action related to education,
(6) experience with integration of equity, environmental and sustainability justice, and citizenship education,
(7) facility with Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differentiated instruction, and culturally responsive pedagogy,
(8) familiarity with the use of digital and multimodal platforms in their teaching, organizational planning and lesson delivery (e.g., Brightspace, Microsoft Suite),
(9) evidence of strong connections with Science and Technology Education organizations at the local, provincial, and national level, and
(10) Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification or equivalent qualification, along with knowledge of the OCT’s Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards.

This ILTA position is a teaching intensive position, with primary responsibility being teaching the following courses at both the St. Catharines and Burlington campuses in Brock University’s Teacher Education Program:

EDBE 8P37 – Science and Technology: Primary/Junior
EDBE 8P27 – Science and Technology: Junior/Intermediate

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to decolonization, reconciliation, anti-racism, and social and ecological justice issues within teacher education learning contexts in course design and teaching.
