Tenure-Track Faculty Position: Pharmaceutical Chemist with Application in Neuropharmacology
The School of Natural Sciences in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Architecture at Laurentian University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for an existing Tenure Track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Chemistry with Application in Neuropharmacology. The preferred start date is July 1, 2026.
Candidates must have completed a PhD degree in a relevant field, such as pharmaceutical chemistry, neuropharmacology, molecular neuroscience, or a related discipline, at the start of the appointment. Relevant work experience at a post-secondary institution is an asset. Candidates with proven research expertise in drug design, development and synthesis, drug-receptor interactions and neuropharmacological mechanisms of drug action are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses as part of the BSc programs in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Behavioural Neuroscience. The candidate will build a strong research program, secure external funding, and supervise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It is expected that the successful candidate will forge interdisciplinary research interactions and collaborations with colleagues in the School of Natural Sciences and within other units at the university, and with industry and community partners.
The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:
● A doctoral degree in chemistry, pharmacology, or neuroscience/neuropharmacology at the time of appointment.
● Have active knowledge of both official languages (functional bilingualism); consideration of
receptive bilingualism (passive comprehension of the French/English language) will be given in
exceptional cases.
● Experience in teaching undergraduate courses in pharmacology, neurochemistry, organic chemistry, molecular modeling, medicinal chemistry, drug design, development, and synthesis. The candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence.
● A track record of publications in peer-reviewed literature on topics related to pharmacology, neuropharmacology, medicinal chemistry, drug design, development, and synthesis.
● Commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive and vibrant academic and work environment.
In addition to active engagement and participation in teaching and research, the successful candidate will be expected to have an on-campus presence and make contributions through service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community.
The School of Natural Sciences is the newest and largest academic unit in the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Architecture. Our faculty members are actively involved in research projects covering a wide range of fields, including chemistry, environmental science, biomedical science, forensic science, materials science, neurobiology, zoology as well as science communication. A variety of specialized research equipment is currently available on campus in the Perdue Central Analytical Facility (PCAF) and a new Virtual Reality Lab is available for advanced understanding of molecular interactions.

• A research statement, including a description of potential research projects the candidate would initiate at Laurentian.
