ASSISTANT PROFESSOR INDIGENOUS AND SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION,
ONE YEAR LIMITED TERM APPOINTMENT
The Faculty of Education (https://www.wlu.ca/academics/faculties/faculty-of-education/index.html) at Wilfrid Laurier University (https://www.wlu.ca/) invites applications for a Limited Term Appointment faculty position in Indigenous and Social Studies Education at the rank of Assistant Professor in Education beginning July 1, 2025 (ending June 30, 2026), subject to budgetary approval. Teaching duties will be assigned on our Brantford campus.
The position is open to Indigenous scholars only and shortlisted candidates must complete the Indigenous identity verification process (https://www.wlu.ca/about/discover-laurier/indigenization/indigenous-identity-verification-process.html) to receive an interview.
The position is open to candidates who hold a completed PhD in Education or EdD, by the start of the appointment or very soon after. An Indigenous scholar who is a recognized Knowledge Keeper and/or with significant experience in post-secondary teaching with a Masters degree will be considered.
The duties and responsibilities of the position are as follows:
• teach core Indigenous and Social Studies Education courses (primary/junior and junior/intermediate) across a range of course delivery modalities, in the Bachelor of Education (Brantford Campus).
• engage in an active research program related to pre-service teacher education in Indigenous and/or social studies education
• collaborate with colleagues in the Faculty of Education and engage in leadership and active service to the Faculty and the University, including program development and support on the Brantford campus.
Successful candidates must:
• use Indigenous ways of knowing and Indigenous pedagogies to teach a selection of courses in the Faculty’s Bachelor of Education, Master of Education, and/or PhD in Educational Studies programs.
• provide evidence of using Indigenous ways of knowing, Indigenous research methodologies, or Indigenous pedagogies to inform research in indigenizing and decolonizing education on Turtle Island.
• demonstrate promise and enthusiasm to develop additional courses within their area of expertise.
• provide leadership to further the Faculty’s decolonizing education strategy and to help lead the Faculty’s decolonizing and Indigenization goals in alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
Preference will be given to candidates who:
• provide evidence of teaching and/or leadership experience in K-12 education.
• have teaching qualifications, with preference given to candidates holding Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent.
• demonstrate ability to teach in the Education Minor and/or Teaching Option.
