Position

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) tenure track faculty position in Public Health at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a PhD (or are in a PhD program with a defense date scheduled) in Public Health or a related field. Your application is of considerable interest to us. Demonstrated training and expertise in at least one of the core competencies (https://www.nccmt.ca/tools/core-competency-tool) of public health is required.

Job Duties
The position will include methodological and substantive research, teaching public health undergraduate and graduate courses, and university and community service. Typical workload breakdown for a tenure track professor at University of Lethbridge is: 40% research: 40% teaching and 20% service.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop a vigorous and independent externally funded research program within a dynamic, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for external funding support from federal and provincial agencies in Canada, to sustain their research program (such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)). Supervision of graduate students and research assistants is also an expectation for this position.

A tenure track professor is expected to teach 4 courses per school year (July 1 – June 30). This includes diverse public health related courses on undergraduate and graduate level.

Service to the university and community includes active participation in the Public Health Program Committee, various other Faculty of Health Sciences and University level committees and bodies, University of Lethbridge Faculty association, professional associations on provincial, national and international level, and other activities.

Academic Setting

The Faculty of Health Sciences at University of Lethbridge offers undergraduate and graduate education. Undergraduate programs include Addictions and Mental Health Counselling, Indigenous Health, Nursing, Public Health, and Therapeutic Recreation. The Bachelor of Health Sciences in Public Health is currently the only such program in Alberta, and one of only three in Canada.

We also currently offer a general Masters of Health Sciences, and a Masters of Health Sciences with a specialization in Public Health. Public Health Program also currently offer graduate certificates in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Policy and Program Planning and Evaluation. In collaboration with the Dhillon School of Business, we offer course-based Masters of Health Management.

This position also offers possibilities in getting involved in teaching at the upcoming Southern Alberta Medical Program (with part of the future medical doctors’ training offered at University of Lethbridge), and other exciting opportunities to engage in the evolution of the Public Health Program, as well as other programs at the Facult of Health Sciences.

Remuneration

Hiring salary will be in the range of $79,522 to $96,562 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience, as well as a benefit package, and relocation assistance.
