The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time academic position in the Business Technology Management area. The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenure-track role at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching). The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025, or a mutually agreed upon date.
Position description and associated responsibilities
The primary purpose of the Assistant Professor (Teaching) is teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as described below. In alignment with the University of Calgary’s strategic vision, and in support of its strategic priorities of leadership, teaching and research integration, the successful applicant will actively contribute to teaching and curriculum development. Additionally, the Assistant Professor (Teaching) is expected to engage in scholarly activities and participate in departmental and university service.
Position requirements, qualifications, skills and achievements required for the appointment
The successful candidate must have:
Completion of a related graduate degree is required. The completion of the highest rank of academic training (e.g., a relevant PhD, DBA, or other relevant doctoral degree) is desired. Strong preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate in a relevant field.
Advanced academic training must be in business technology management/management information systems, business data analytics, or business artificial intelligence.
A track record of effective teaching and academic training in business technology management, business analytics, and artificial intelligence at the post-secondary level.
The successful candidate will be able to execute the expected duties listed below.

The ability to teach all of our BTMA undergraduate level courses in Business Analytics and graduate level courses in a) Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, and b) Business Analytics diploma stream in Data Science is paramount.
The candidate should have the skills and ability to teach a wide array of courses. Examples include: MGST 217 Introduction to Business Analytics, BTMA 317 Introduction to Business Technology Management, BTMA 331 DBMS/SQL/Power BI, BTMA 333 Enterprise Analysis (Systems Analysis and Design), BTMA 431 Data Gathering, Wrangling, and Analyzing Data in R, BTMA 531 Data Analytics Tools for Business, and the graduate level versions of these courses (e.g., BTMA 601 MBA – Business Technology Management, BTMA 672 Master of Management – IT Management, BTMA 674 Master of Management – IT for Value Innovation, BTMA 631 DBMS/SQL/Power BI, BTMA 635 Enterprise Analysis (Systems Analysis and Design), BTMA 636 Data Analytics I, BTMA 637 Data Analytics II, DATA 613 Introductory Data Analytics, and DATA 614 Advanced Data Analytics) as needed. Candidates may also be expected to teach other undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Business Technology Management as needed.
Coordinating courses with multiple sections (e.g., BTMA 317 and MGST 217) as needed.
Substantial service roles within Haskayne including, but not limited to, faculty advising and mentorship to the Haskayne Technology Club student organization.
Actively participating in projects and/or committees related to teaching and learning curriculum development and implementation.
Participating in activities related to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) including professional development, SoTL research, case writing, and disseminating research to professional communities. Conducting an active program of research publication, either domain-specific Business Technology Management research or SoTL research.
The normal teaching load for an Assistant Professor (Teaching) in the Haskayne School of Business is eight courses per academic year (typically four courses per semester).
