The Finance (FNCE) area at the Haskayne School of Business (HSB), University of Calgary, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching). The appointment start date is July 1, 2026.
The position requires evidence or promise of teaching effectiveness or competency in teaching and learning. An awareness of how to apply scholarly approaches to teaching & learning practices, participation in reflective practice, and professional learning activities related to teaching and learning would be an asset. Duties include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, scholarship of teaching and learning, and some services related to student activities.
Faculty in the Finance area at the Haskayne School of Business are engaged in a range of teaching, including MBA, Master of Management, and Master of Finance programs. We invite applications in any area of expertise within the finance, financial engineering, and economics domain.
We expect candidates for the position to meet the following:
• A formal business education with a graduate-level degree focusing on management, finance, or economics (such as an MBA, MFin, or an equivalent degree) is required;
• The completion of the highest rank of academic training (e.g., PhD, DBA, or other relevant doctoral degree) in a relevant field is desired.
• A Finance designation such as a CFA (Chartered Financial Certificate) is desired;
• Experience teaching a variety of finance courses at the post-secondary level with a proven track record of effective and innovative pedagogy;
• Strong evidence of successful teamwork and a collegial approach to interacting with colleagues, students, and other stakeholders.
Expected Duties include:
• Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in finance, including both core and elective offerings at introductory and advanced levels, with delivery in person and online.
• Teaching the equivalent of eight half-credit courses per year in the Haskayne School of Business.
• Engaging in continuous professional development and contributing to the community of practice in teaching and learning.
• Taking on service responsibilities within the Haskayne School of Business, with emphasis on enhancing student learning, fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion, and strengthening the teaching and learning environment.
• Participating in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and/or discipline-specific research in finance, including peer-reviewed publications such as journal articles and case studies, the creation of shareable teaching materials, and dissemination at academic or professional conferences.
