The Position:
The Law and Society Program invites applications for a tenure-steam appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The start date for this position is July 1, 2025.
We welcome applicants from all areas encompassing Law and Society, especially those whose scholarly activity engages with this emerging field. Expertise in Indigenous law, race and law, or critical approaches to criminal law and justice are preferred.

As the successful applicant, you will be responsible for teaching five undergraduate courses each year, (https://laws.acadiau.ca/program-info/courses.html) with a course release in your first year. Teaching responsibilities will typically include LAWS 1003 Introduction to Law and Society and LAWS 4003 Issues in Law and Society. The ability to teach LAWS 2003 Approaches to Law and Justice and LAWS 3003 Approaches to Law and Society will be considered an asset. As the first permanent full-time member appointed to the Law and Society Program, you will also have the opportunity to develop new courses that reflect your teaching and research interests.

Academic Qualifications:
Those with (or near completion of) a PhD in Sociolegal Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, or disciplines relevant to Law and Society are encouraged to apply. Applicants with a JD/LLB/MA, in addition to relevant professional or teaching experience, will be considered.

Workplace Environment:
Law and Society is a new, vibrant, and rapidly growing program at Acadia University that welcomed its first cohort of majors in fall 2023. In addition to a core set of Law and Society courses, the program draws from cross-listed courses from across the University, offering students the opportunity to study the relationship between law and society through multiple disciplinary and methodological approaches.

• A statement describing teaching potential and/or experience, including how the applicant’s approach to teaching supports the education of a diversity of students. The selection committee recognizes that teaching effectiveness can be demonstrated in multiple ways.
• A statement describing research experience, service experience and/or potential, and ways in which the applicant’s teaching and/or research can contribute to the development of the Law and Society Program.
• The names and email/phone contact information of three references (to be contacted if short-listed).
