The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) based at the Research Institute of the McGill University Hospital Centre (RI-MUHC).

The McGill Brain Metabolism Initiative (BMI) is seeking to recruit an outstanding junior to mid-level tenure-track scientist to help build a program in brain-body science. The incumbent will be primarily appointed in the McGill University Department of Medicine; they will be based at the Research Institute of the McGill University Hospital Centre (RI-MUHC)—a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will join the core team of the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Metabolism and the Brain (CERC in Metabolism and the Brain). The incumbent will be expected to develop an independent research program that will complement the existing strengths in the Metabolic Disorders and Complications (MeDiC) and the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience (BRaIN) Programs at the RI-MUHC.
The successful candidate will be involved in the academic activities of the Department of Medicine; they will join a diverse team of experts conducting research in a dynamic environment involving strong collaborative links between researchers working in the investigation of the central nervous system’s control of energy metabolism, neuroimaging, cognitive determinants of feeding, cognitive neuroscience, psychology of self-control, nutrition, aging, clinical and fundamental aspects of neurodegenerative disorders, and computational neuroscience from McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and Faculty of Science.
The successful candidate will benefit from a vibrant research and translational ecosystem, which is further enhanced by several additional McGill Research Centres and three McGill-affiliated hospitals. Technology platforms at these sites provide state-of-the-art equipment and facilities designed for conducting cutting-edge research in fundamental science with a promise of high impact, clinical investigation and trials, health outcomes, and epidemiology.
The incumbent will be expected to carry out scholarly activities to develop a new educational curricula and teaching at the McGill Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at both undergraduate and graduate levels within the Department of Medicine’s Graduate Program in Clinical and Translational Research.
The successful candidate will be expected to build and lead an independent research program that includes a focus on brain-body science. The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Candidates must:
• Have a PhD degree in a relevant field;
• Possess relevant post-doctoral experience;
• Have a proven track record in neurometabolic research at the molecular and cellular level using pre-clinical models;
• Possess relevant expertise in engineering innovative tools for neural circuit interrogation such as intersectional viral-based strategies and genetic tracing techniques;
• Have proven track record of research productivity with evidence of scholarly excellence;
• Demonstrate a commitment to, and evidence of, high-quality teaching and inclusive pedagogy;
• Have a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively and have a track record of effective and synergistic collaboration;
• Fluency in English is essential; a working knowledge of French, or a commitment to acquiring it within few years of appointment is preferred.
