BMO Registrations and Continuing Education, within LRCP Wealth Management Compliance, facilitates the registration and Continuing Education requirements for BMO employees whose business activities in insurance and/or securities are subject to Canadian regulation under provincial authority and/or as members of Self-Regulatory Organizations. 

Working in a team environment in a dual capacity role, the Associate Compliance Officer is responsible for facilitating Insurance registration requests, providing advisory services, and acting as a point of escalation for registration related issues and inquiries for BMO Estate Insurance Advisory Services Inc. (EIASI). This role involves liaising with senior team members, various regulators, internal partners within LRCP (including Compliance & Governance groups), and various levels of Senior Management. In addition, this role supports the Continuing Education team in an administrative capacity. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Provide high quality service in all internal and/or external interactions
  • Provide advice and guidance to Branches and Lines of Business on related registration matters
  • Perform functions required to register insurance licensees, monitor applications for potential terms and conditions relating to Civil, Criminal, and/or Financial matters and escalate to management
  • Prepare termination submissions for registered persons including liaising with various internal business units, and external insurance companies.
  • Maintain various electronic records such as internal databases, registrant files, Excel spreadsheets, and other systems as necessary
  • On a regular basis, interact with regulators on registration files
  • Understand and keep current with regulatory, Bank, and department policies and procedures with a firm understanding of regulatory deadlines
  • Ensure operational integrity and privacy measures are maintained and safeguarded with the LOB and compliance department
  • Approve or reject CE credit submissions for appropriate regulatory body
  • Communicate with licensee/registrant on their CE requirements and standing
  • Act as a back-up to other team members when required
  • Participate in special projects as needed

Knowledge/Skills/Experience 

  • Preferably 1 or 2 years of Insurance registrations experience or relevant experience
  • Broad knowledge of CISRO, CLHIA and CIRO-IDD rules, policies and procedures
  • Broad knowledge of Insurance and CIRO dealers
  • University degree or post-secondary diploma
  • Ability to identify and analyze risks and propose steps to mitigate risks
  • Ability to work in a high stress, fast-paced and changing environment
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Analytical skills and good judgment are extremely important
  • Must possess excellent negotiation and listening skills
  • Must be independent and confident enough to defend their views in an open forum
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal business communication skills
  • Able to recognize and handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks and meeting stringent deadlines
  • Fluency in French an asset

Salary:

$49,000.00 – $90,800.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
