Description
The Associate, Global Medical Information is responsible for executing strategy and developing content for the global medical information system for assigned products. The incumbent ensures that Astellas Medical Information content in the global repository that is current, approved, medical content. The incumbent is responsible that information developed for external customers represents one Astellas medical voice in alignment with the integrated medical communications plans; develops content that builds on metrics, reporting and analysis of customers’ inquiries/trends/data gaps; responsible for handling escalations of complex MI inquiries for assigned products; and lastly, monitors pertinent scientific/pharmaceutical and competitive intelligence to ensure content is current. Is a Core member of the Medical Communications Product Team and collaborates with numerous internal stakeholders to ensure medical information is developed and disseminated appropriately.
Essential Job Duties
Represents Medical Information on applicable global matrix teams. Contributes to the Medical Information portion of the Core Medical Plan (CMP) and informs the CMT of key clinical issues, trends, and data gaps by analyzing medical information inquiry reports
Proactively identifies needs for specific medical information content development and dissemination
Leads and/or participates in applicable matrix teams responsible for the development of scientifically balanced, well-referenced core global medical content used for responses to external medical inquiries for global products. Participates in best practices development and analysis of process gaps across matrix teams
Influences across regional MA and affiliates, to ensure the development of relevant global medical information content and its appropriate use. In developing global medical information content, contextually evaluates large amounts of data into concise deliverables that are focused, objective, balanced and supported by applicable references.
Identifies new pertinent scientific/pharmaceutical data, MI insights and competitive intelligence that is significant enough to update or create new medical information content.
Evaluates and researches escalated complex MI inquiries for assigned products
Identifies needs/gaps regarding Medical Information policies, procedures, and work processes; works towards consistent process improvement.
Develops partnerships with:
Medical Information (MI) colleagues in regions to drive and ensure understanding and development of global medical information content and to ensure a productive, efficient and highly valued work environment.
Publications group to ensure communication exchange i.e. ensure applicable data from Astellas publications are included in medical information content.
Scientific Communications colleagues to exchange knowledge, informing MI content for external customers and scientific knowledge/insights for internal stakeholders
Ensures compliance and transparency within medical information processes and procedures in alignment with Legal / Regulatory / Compliance.
Accountable for meeting travel budget objectives, assisting in project goals and department priorities.
Demonstrates effective strategic thinking and problem solving with a high degree of emotional intelligence, with the ability to both recognize and anticipate problems.
If applicable, instructs and mentors students according to educational requirements as appropriate, during a professional rotation at Astellas. In Munich location, this responsibility applies only to incumbents with a pharmacy degree.
This position provides global medical information support through the development of MI content for use to respond to MI inquiries (100K+/year) and through addressing escalations of complex/challenging queries for assigned products (up to 25% of total queries)
Responsibility includes content for assigned products (2-3 global products) as well as assigned regional/local products (up to 400 new documents per year, and maintenance of up to 300-500 documents per year)
Lead/participate on 1-3 matrix teams
Management of output of 1-2 vendors
Impacts global customer service and the development and dissemination of medical information content provided to external customers. 800+ internal stakeholders will have access to the global medical information system and its content.
Required Qualifications
Pharmacist (PharmD) or equivalent Advanced Scientific Degree (such as PhD or MD) with at least 3 years Pharmaceutical Industry experience including at least 1-2 years of drug/medical Information experience.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of legal/regulatory/compliance/pharmaceutical requirements and guidelines with respect to medical affairs and medical information in the pharmaceutical industry.
Applies comprehensive technical skills to review/understand complex scientific/pharmaceutical and medical data from clinical and non-clinical trials and summarizes content in both written and verbal forms according to medical/pharmaceutical criteria.
Demonstrates strong communication skills, including medical/scientific written and verbal communications. Required skills include writing, reviewing and editing communications using clinical/scientific expertise
Has comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology and applicable company products
Has excellent presentation and training skills
Manages multiple projects with a high level of efficiency
Fluent in written and verbal business English
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a global pharmaceutical industry environment.
Matrix management experience preferred.
Experience within Therapeutic Area.
Demonstrates understanding of commercial business surrounding applicable product(s)
