The School of Human Resource Management in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor level position in Sport Management. This is a tenure-track appointment to the Professorial Stream to commence 1 July 2026.

The Sport Management program https://futurestudents.yorku.ca/program/sport-management at York University accepted its first cohort of students in fall 2024 at the new Markham Campus of the University. The program is temporarily housed within the School of Human Resource Management until such time as a new School of Sport Management is launched. The Bachelor of Sport Management program is housed at York University’s Markham Campus and the successful candidate’s office will be located in Markham.

The Sport Management program seeks candidates who hold expertise in and are able to teach the foundational courses in in the Bachelor of Sport Management program. Applicants should have the breadth and versatility to teach a variety of undergraduate courses in the program, including but not limited to: Sport Finance and Accounting; Sport Management Analytics, Sport Economics; Sport Entrepreneurship, Sport Event Management; Sport Sales and Consumer Behaviour; E-Sports Management.

Collaboration with York University’s existing research strengths in the core areas of the new campus and dynamic engagement with the area’s businesses, industries, and communities will create an innovative, cross-disciplinary, and social justice-oriented research culture for solving complex problems that transcend traditional disciplines. 

Candidate Qualifications:
• Degree: PhD by the appointment’s start date in Sport Management or related field is required.
• Scholarship:
o A coherent and well-articulated program of research and specialization in Sport Management and related areas.
o A record or evident promise of generating innovative, substantive, rigorous, and as appropriate, externally funded research and/or research creation.
o A record or evident promise of making influential contributions and demonstrating excellence in the field (e.g., the research statement; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) within significant journals in the field; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing).

• Teaching:
o A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students (e.g., the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference).
o Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given the position may involve graduate teaching and supervision.
o Pedagogical innovations in priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning are an asset.
