Salary: $52,000 – $65,000 per year

Our client, a downtown law firm, is looking for a Bilingual Legal Assistant to join their close-knit team in a permanent, full-time capacity.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide administrative support to lawyers
  • Coordinate schedules, appointments, and meetings with clients and peers
  • Manage incoming mail, prioritize deadlines, and maintain accurate records
  • Ensure seamless workflow through the lawyers’ offices, expediting tasks as needed
  • Create, prepare, and proofread documents, correspondence, and legal materials
  • Assist in preparing and formatting legal documents, forms, and court pleadings
  • Arrange for service, filing, and payment of court documents and invoices
  • Make travel arrangements and maintain organized records
  • Set up and maintain filing systems, including tickler systems and file closure procedures
  • Enter dockets into accounting software in both English and French
  • Prepare reports, including file status, work-in-progress, and pre-bill

Required Skills and experience:

  • Proven experience as a Legal Assistant in Litigation
  • fluency in both French and English (written and oral)
  • Strong technical skills in Word, Outlook, and Adobe; knowledge of Excel is an asset
  • Familiarity with Rules of Civil Procedure, Federal Court Rules, court filing procedures, and time limitations
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Effective communication skills in writing and speaking, with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in both languages
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent proofreading skills in both languages
  • Highly organized and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of legal office administration through office procedures courses or related experience is valued
  • Demonstrates a sound work ethic, flexibility, respect, honesty, and trustworthiness
