The sleep program data analyst is a part-time member of the Sleep research Program at UBC. The incumbent is responsible for the design and analyses of datasets as part of the Sleep Program. They will also be involved with supervising and ensuring quality of data collection.Organizational Status
This position reports directly to Dr. Najib AyasWork Performed

  • Works with staff in the UBC Research Program to supervise data collection and ensure data quality.
  • Performs quality control on data collected, assures compliance to the data definitions, identifies inconsistencies, and offers pathways to resolution.
  • Leads data visualization, through the use of charts, tables, graphs, maps, infographics, and dashboards.
  • Advises on methodology for epidemiological and clinical trial investigations, including randomization procedures, statistical power, and selection of outcome measures.
  • Develops and carry out a plan for database analysis of the complex sleep research datasets at UBC. This includes databases incorporating information from PopDataBC, omics, and raw sleep study data
  • Supervises PhD and Masters students
  • Designs and merges complex datasets (multidimensional including omics, physiologic, administrative, and survey data) to develop core sleep datasets available for analysis
  • Writes and is responsible for the statistical sections of research proposals, grant applications, and publications, and assists the Principal Investigator (PI) with overall grant and manuscript writing as needed.

Makes professional decisions and recommendations on all aspects of work and is responsible for the quality of research activities. Inadequate performance my result in failure to achieve project objectives, publication, and could have significant impact on chances of receiving future funding.Supervision Received

Mentoring of trainees and other HQP.Minimum Qualifications
Post-graduate degree in Statistics. Minimum of two years of related experience in research analysis, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.– Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own– Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred Qualifications· PhD in a field related to data analysis.· Minimum of five years of related experience in research analysis, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.· Experience with sleep related research projects including working with raw sleep study data, and PopDataBC data.· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database handling, and software and hardware troubleshooting including R.· Team-oriented, committed and precise· Demonstrates responsibility and accountability.· Effective oral and written communication, problem solving, interpersonal, multitasking and excellent organization.· Demonstrates ability to work effectively and precisely under pressure and time constraint accuracy and attention to detail required.· Expected to work collaboratively as part of a team· Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings as needed.· Has excellent communication skills, and works well in a multidisciplinary team environment.· Is skilled in cross-sectional, and longitudinal analysis for complex and time-varying exposure-response relationships, as well as dimension reduction techniques relevant to diverse datasets.· Experience with epigenetics, genomics, multiomics, big data and machine learning an asset.· Is willing to learn new techniques and novel analysis methods for application.· Skills in R required.· Experience with PopDataBC required· Experience with sleep related research including analysis of raw PSG signals using signal processing software for extraction of features
