Login to your McGill Workday account and apply to this posting using the Find Jobs report (type Find Jobs in the search bar).Position Summary:Reporting directly to the Associate Director for Suicide Prevention and Crisis Management, the Case Manager, Crisis Response (CMCR), will work closely with the Associate Director and the other members of the Crisis Response team. This person will collaborate with key stakeholders both on and off campus in supporting students achieve their goal of academic success. The Case Manager Crisis Response position is recognized by the University as the first point of contact for students experiencing academic or non-academic difficulties, crisis situations, and other complex student situations. This person will have the ability to assess crisis situations while intervening appropriately to ensure the safety of students.The goal of the Case Manager Crisis Response advisor is to provide guidance, non-judgmental, confidential, short-term support, to all students in need throughout their academic career at the university and refer students to appropriate support resources as needed, and regularly consults with the Associate Director and the Crisis Response Team.Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess the situation of a student and can determine if there are any safety risks to self or others.
  • Manages student cases, which can range from complex issues surrounding academics, disruptive behaviors, or crisis, to very high-risk crisis situations.
  • Collaborates with the Case Manager Crisis Response Team regularly regarding students of concern or in need of academic guidance.
  • Ensures regular follow-up with students in need while respecting the limitations of the Case Manager Crisis Response role.
  • Ensures that student files are properly documented and that notes are always up to date.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student files and all information gathered.
  • Liaise with University stakeholders to facilitate referrals to appropriate internal support services and takes initiative by collaborating and mobilizing these services to help students in the best way possible, while considering the limitations and realities of the resources available.
  • Consults regularly with the Associate Director.
  • Participates in ODoS weekly team meetings.
  • Actively participates in the weekly Crisis Response Team meetings led by the Associate Director.
  • Shows leadership and confidence when organizing and leading meetings with faculty members regarding students of concern.
  • Takes initiative in working directly with hospitals or other external support resources for students at a high risk for suicide when required.
  • Builds and maintains positive collaborative relationships with various internal stakeholders who are closely connected to Student Life and Learning.
  • As required, participates in the development of inclusive policies, protocols, procedures, workshops or trainings.
  • As required, deliver workshops to faculty and staff members regarding how to detect students of concern, in crisis or suicide danger, and referral pathways.
  • Engages in professional development activities when required.
  • Remain current on best practices related to case management, threat assessment, and crisis intervention and emerging research.
  • Actively participates in Performance Dialogues 2-3 times a year lead by the Associate Director.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate competence in crisis intervention, suicide crisis intervention prevention and postvention, as well as a knowledge of mental health crisis interventions and case management in a university context.A graduate degree in a related field (Social Work, Human Relations, Counselling) considered an asset; Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or Prévenir le suicide chez les personnes de 14 ans et plus – Susciter l’espoir et estimer le danger considered an asset; threat assessment training considered an asset.Ability to take initiative and work independently; a proven ability to work cooperatively with others in an interdisciplinary team environment. Experience working with highly sensitive and confidential information; record of maintaining good working relationships in a large, diverse community. Familiarity with policies and procedures for students on campus and support services on and off campus would be an asset. Knowledge and understanding of student retention issues concerning international and indigenous students would be an asset. Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or evenings. Excellent verbal communication in English and French required, excellent written communication in English, written French an asset. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
