The Geoscience Technology program is designed to prepare students with a diverse education and hands on training in the field of earth and environmental sciences. The Geoscience Technology program has an opening for a temporary part-time instructor.The successful candidate will be an energetic and empathetic leader of students with a commitment to student motivation and achievement utilizing their outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience delivering adult education will be a strong asset. A comfort level with various computer programs and systems as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team will be critical to success. The successful candidate should have a background in geology or geoscience with experience in petrology and/ or environmental law and ethics. Responsibilities include curriculum development and delivery, evaluation and maintenance of student progress and records as well as student support and program operational activities.Key Responsibilities:Prepare and present learning outcomes and activities in classroom and laboratory settingsOrganizing and supervising practical assignmentsFacilitate the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies that ensure efficient and effective delivery of course materialsManage instructional delivery and set the tone and climate for a safe and effective learning environmentEvaluate the learning process and provide meaningful feedback to studentsRespond to student issuesUtilize appropriate educational technology for presentations, communications, and program promotionsMaintain professional and ethical relationships with students and colleaguesActively participate in the strategies of NAIT’s Academic Model as identified by the instituteUtilize regular student feedback to identify and implement instructional improvementImprove the quality of instruction through professional development activitiesParticipate in course reviews, program reviews and curriculum developmentMaintain contact with relevant industriesSkills & Abilities:Excellent interpersonal skillsA strong desire to help students succeedExcellent communication skillsDesire to utilize simulator-based training aidsQualifications:A technology diploma or degree in Geology or Geoscience-related program with industry experience is requiredExperience in consultation processes, interpretation and application of environmental legislation and protection applicable to industrial application at municipal, provincial and federal levelsExperience in the identification and classification, occurrence and origin of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks using hand specimens and thin sectionsPost-secondary teaching is considered an assetApplicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).Remuneration: $99/Scheduled Instruction Hour.
