You may have also acquired the following skills:

  • 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering

  • Familiarity with the design and operation of a CANDU power plant, with strong knowledge of nuclear design engineering, engineering change control, and related codes and standards.

  • Prior OPG experience will be considered an asset.

  • Worked in an engineering role for at least 3 years with structural steel and reinforced concrete design.

  • Lifting & rigging and scaffold experience also an asset.

  • Experience working on large scale engineering projects

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with technical report writing capabilities

As an Intermediate Civil/Structural Engineer in Kincardine Pickering, Ontario (remote work will also be considered), you will be part of the proven team in the IBC Business Line in the Installed Base Business Unit. The Installed Base BU has more than 60 years of international experience in all types of technologies on more than 380 reactors worldwide. With 4,600 employees in 15 countries, the Installed Base BU has a strong identity and its vision is to: “Deliver innovative products and services by putting our high-level skills to work to guarantee throughout the world a safe and competitive, low carbon source of energy.” You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and play a vital role in supporting Canadian Nuclear Reactors in producing electricity that is both reliable and environmentally friendly. Your work will include:

  • Perform more complex engineering assignments requiring originality, ingenuity and the development of new methods or resolution of conflicting objectives by using established methodologies and applying sound engineering principles.

  • Provide advanced structural technical support, guide and review the work of other team members.

  • Review progress and update management, as needed.

  • Provide civil/structural design engineering support for the Steam Generator Replacement Project, and other projects in support of the Installed Base BU.

  • Develop and verify calculations and analysis of existing structures to support project execution.

  • Provide engineering justification/approval for requested construction changes, and support required design changes to existing engineering documents.

  • Provide knowledge in structural steel and concrete design and installation, and the ability to quickly resolve field issues which warrant engineering changes.

  • Perform a variety of more complex engineering assignments typically in areas of design, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems.

  • Prepare Design Engineering Change (DEC) packages in accordance with customer engineering change procedures.

  • Support field construction and execution activities including field change notices, design revisions, commissioning, and DEC closeout.

  • Receive minimal assistance and instruction on most assignments and solutions and provide guidance to EITs and junior engineering staff.

  • Ensure compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards including CSA S16, A23.3, N291, S136, and S157.

  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making more complex adaptations and modifications.

  • Develop new or adapted products, methods, systems or models to provide added value solutions to customers.

  • Research and assess best practices, proposing methods and improvements.

  • Coordinate engineering work performed by subcontractors and vendors.

  • Coordinate change requests from construction and procurement.

  • Work on special projects, as directed.

  • Perform other related duties and tasks, as required.
