Work ArrangementsThe Department of Criminology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, is seeking a contract instructor(s) to teach beginning in the Winter 2025 semester. The department also invites applicants for placement on a contract list of instructors.The successful applicant(s) will be qualified to teach a variety of courses which may include one or more of the following:CRIM 3390 Crime and Intelligence AnalysisCRIM 1120 Introduction to Policing
CRIM 1100 Introduction to the Criminal Justice SystemApplicants must be available to teach at both the New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses.Workload is assigned each year based on available sections.

ResponsibilitiesYou will instruct students, facilitate learning and evaluate student progress in College courses. You will plan, organize and manage learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners and maintain quality learner-centered instruction.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will NeedApplicants will meet the following criteria:Applications of those who seek appointment to teach Criminology courses (apart from law courses) will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • an MA in Criminology or a relevant related discipline (with thesis) from a Canadian university, or an MA in Criminology or a relevant related discipline (with thesis) and demonstrated experience or research/publication in the Canadian criminal justice system is required
  • PhD in Criminology or a relevant related discipline (with dissertation) from a Canadian university, or a PhD in Criminology or a relevant related discipline (with dissertation) and demonstrated experience or research/publication in the Canadian criminal justice system is preferred;
  • extensive work related experience in the Criminal Justice field is preferred;
  • applicants will also demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate courses across the Criminology curriculum (apart from law courses).
  • Specific to teaching CRIM 3390 – The CRIM 3390 curriculum specifies the utilization of “computer software for statistical and geographic analysis of crime patterns”. As a result, faculty teaching the course must have specific training in both of these areas. This could include, training in common statistical/database software applications (e.g., SPSS or Excel). It must also include training in geographic analysis, using geographic information system (GIS) software (e.g., ArcGIS). Evidence of formal GIS training and/or experience is required in order to be qualified to teach this course.
