For more than 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing exciting, safe, and accessible camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Coordinator, Camp Programs to help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for ‘kids of all ages’ with sight loss, and their families!Your Impact at CNIB

  • Facilitating assigned staff training sessions in an engaging and educational way.
  • Support with screening, staff interviews, and onboarding, as needed
  • Plan for staff arrival to camp, including organizing details of arrival, welcome bags, and events.
  • In consultation with the Supervisor, Camp Programs, finalize the program schedule, ensuring that it meets the needs of guests and staff members, and includes a variety of programs, including new programs, community-building programs and land and water programs.
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies are in good working condition and that there are adequate supplies for planned activities.
  • Encourage staff success and development by supervising, coaching, organizing and monitoring work and providing feedback to staff.
  • Connect with staff members on a weekly basis to ensure job satisfaction and check in regarding goals, successes and challenges
  • Complete staff performance reviews and provide this information to staff members.
  • Facilitate pre- and post-session meetings with staff and volunteers to set expectations for the team.
  • Promote and encourage participation in programs through endorsement of activities to guests.
  • Be the point of contact for staff and guests when issues arise and help collaboratively problem solve and provide solutions for guests and staff.
  • Maintain documentation of incidents, near-misses, accidents and any events at beyond regular camp operations.
  • Take on rotational responsibilities of “Manager on Duty” – taking the lead role in emergency situations and responding to text message or phone calls on the “Manager on Duty” cell phone.

Requirements:Who you are:Education and Certifications

  • Enrolled in a Recreation and Leisure, Education, Youth Worker or equivalent program an asset.
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”.
  • National Lifeguarding Certification (NLS) an asset.
  • Current Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCO) an asset.
  • Current G class driver’s licence with current and clean driver’s abstract an asset .
  • Current F class driver’s licence, or willingness to obtain, an asset.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous experience in supervisory role required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Mature and professional attitude.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Knowledge and experience in an Ontario Camps Association (OCA) accredited camp an asset.
  • Ability to work as a team and independently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as well as standard camp hours and work outdoors for long periods of time.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

Work Environment

  • Respects the importance of confidential information while effectively functioning as a team member or working independently.
  • This position may require the ability to work occasional overtime/flex time.
  • This position may have to deal with difficult situations or people.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a dynamic and busy environment, with frequent interruptions.
  • Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with other staff members.
